Hello, 2012 | Personal

It's the very last day of 2011. 364 days... where did they go, anyway? I already wrote a post about this year... it's ups and downs and everything God's done for me were awesome.

Now I'm looking forward to 2012. It's going to be filled with more ups and downs. More familiar routine more new experiences. God's going to make it a GREAT year, amen? =)

One thing that I'm extremely (like, totally, completely, amazingly...) grateful for as I go into the new year is this... Eeek! Squeak! Squeeeeeal!! I can hardly type about it without smiling... looky here, chicas and gentlemen.

It's my new best friend.

It's a Canon Rebel T2i... and I love it. I'm also pretty close to sure that he/she/it loves me, too, lol!! =)My splendid new camera has taken poor Darcy's place, and already he/she/it is being amazing!

And I'm also tired of calling he/she/it... he/she/it. So... what do I name the thing? My poor new buddy can't go into the New Year without a name. That would just be... wrong. I'm still not sure what he/she/it is... chica or dude? Darcy was a dude, and he got along famously with Pep and Wayne and Valerie. (yes, I named my lenses, too, which is utterly ridiculous.) Maybe I'll call my new one Knightley... see a theme?

Anyway. If I've totally scared you away with all my chit-chatting about naming my electronic equipment, let me just say... that's all I name. Well, I name stuffed animals, too. But I don't name my pillows or my shoes or my hairbrush. Trust me.

I hope you have a...

 HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Thanks for making this year fabulous as my dear blog readers! Y'all are pretty cool, you know? =)  Thank you so much... andddddd... don't stay up too late, okay?

Much love!

2011 | A Year in Review

“It's opener, out there, in the wide, open air.”
Dr. Suess, Oh, the Places You'll Go!

This year was a big year for me. College, working, teaching, leaving home, traveling, new experiences. The world is a *big*, wild place. And it is "opener." Wide, open air. It's scary, wonderful, awesome... all at once.

Photobucket
I did a lot of traveling... both by myself and with others. I think I prefer the "with others" part. I admit it IS fun to be on your own... clutching your Starbucks and working on your laptop in the airport makes you look professional and "grown-up"!

But I like the camaraderie of traveling with people. Giggling over a Cinnabon in the busy airport, playing crossword puzzles at 10,000 feet, fixing your funky hair with your Mom's brush because you forgot yours.

Photobucket
My camera completely lived and died this year. Poor ol' Darcy. He saw MUCH this year... until the fateful day that he refused to click any more.

Frankly, I don't blame the thing. I put him through much too much.

Photobucket
I started off the year flying/driving through the South with my Mom, visiting my aunt, uncle, and cousins, checking out colleges, turning eighteen while on the road, getting my ears pierced, and wearing out the GPS.

Photobucket
Oh, yes... and painting our toenails, hanging out on the beach, getting tan, and taking pictures of our feet. Loveliness, yes?

Photobucket
My next excursion was to Jessica Shae's internship in Texas. It was my first time ever being in that awesome state... I had good food, learned a LOT, made new friends, and just had a blast.

That was when I closed my old blog and started up this one - a new chapter in my photography business.

Photobucket
My family and I made the most of this summer. We had to keep in mind that it COULD be the last summer that we spend together - I mean, come on! We're getting *oldie moldie* around here. Next thing you know, one of us could end up - *gasp* - moved out. Or worse - married! eeeek!

*note*... my older sister Roberta is missing from this picture - not because she doesn't love us any more, but because she was working for a ministry in Texas at the time. You'll just have to pretend she's in there... =)

Photobucket
I also held two "workshops" this year - Dakota B. and Anna C. are two sweet girls that are just getting started in the photography business, and it was such fun to be able to give them some hints!

Photobucket
Of course the rodeo... which is... like... *huge* in our small town.

Photobucket
After that my family was blessed with an awesome visit from my aunt and uncle! They parked their "house" on our property and stuck around for a few weeks. We had fun...

Photobucket
Yeah. We seriously rode a carousel. I hadn't done that since third grade.

I really think people should do it more often.

Photobucket
Our annual county-wide Fourth of July party was a crazy hit, as usual. Lots of work, sweat, planning, work, fun, games, work, and more work. But it was worth it!

Photobucket
A rather large hallmark of this year was the splendid purchase of my MARVELOUS iPhone 4! The thing is fabulous - I hate how attached I am to it, to tell you the truth.

Photobucket
Summer colors, summer crazy, summer business, summer fun... summer life.

Photobucket
We spent many an afternoon just chillin'. I'm definitely making time for that again next summer! Floating the river in huge inner-tubes, kayaking with Daddy, hanging with friends, swimming in the frigid lake with my bestest friend, volleyball... it was a dreamy summer.

Photobucket
Oh, yes - made all the better by a visit with said "bestest" friend!! I love this girl to death, and it was AWESOME to be able to see her this year! =)

Photobucket
Summer began wrapping up with the Northeast Washington Fair - which was just as country, small-town, hot, busy, and fun as ever.

You may be wondering why I have a picture of my gorgeous sista, Sarah, up there... instead of, oh, say, a cow? or a horse? Well... that's because she was crowned fair PRINCESS this year! Yeah, I'm just a leeeeetle bit proud.

Photobucket
Then summer ended.

And I had to say goodbye to these fabulous people.

It was bittersweet, because I hated leaving them and home so much. But I was super excited... because I was going tooooooooo....

Photobucket
Florida!!

But not just for fun, okay? I started (and finished!) my first freshman semester of college at a wonderful school. God really knew what He was doing when He directed me there. We have a loooooong way to go, but He's brought me this far, and I know He'll finish up what He's started.

Photobucket
It's beautiful down there... just sayin'. A good place to go to college. =)

Photobucket
Yes, this is what my days were made up of. Piano. Books... anddddddd...

Photobucket
Chocolate.

Yes, it got me through many long hours of studying. And before you jump to conclusions, I'll have you know that I'm not your typical "freshman fifteen" student. My two mile runs and that 5K also got me through those long weeks, okay? =)

Photobucket
And then I got to go home.

I lived through the quizzes, tests, homework, midterms, quizzes, tests, homework, and finals. I made friends, good grades, and iffy grades.

I cried, I laughed, I was miserable, I had fun, I wanted to go home, I wanted to stay. I prayed with others, they prayed for me.

I learned how to put on makeup in the dark, how to find an earring back on a gray carpet. I learned how to clean a seven-girl bathroom top to bottom in twenty minutes. How to eat lunch in seven minutes. I learned that finished fingernail polish isn't as important as finished homework, and that relationships are fragile and being a peacemaker is a good thing. That books are heavy and laughter can lighten a load.

God was good, awesome, and frustrating - He has an annoying sense of humor and He gives an incredible sense of peace, amen? =)

Photobucket
Five short weeks are flying by. Christmas was fabulous - I love my family. Being home has been great - and I'm going to repeat myself - it's *flying* by. Before I know it, I'll be back on that campus, ready for whatever God has for my life.

Until the very end, I'm going to treasure this time with my family... talking over coffee, giggling in the family room until laaaate at night, snowboarding the glistening mountains, playing volleyball, coloring posters cut from the American Girl magazine with my nine-year-old sister, running errands with my sixteen-year-old, heart-to-hearts with my Mom, playing the piano with my bro, makeup fun with my big sis, and breakfasts with Daddy.

Photobucket
And before I go, I'm going to celebrate the New Year. I'm going to praise the Lord for everything He's done this year and thank Him for everything He's promised to do next year.

He says in Isaiah 45:2-3..

I will go before you
And make the crooked places straight;
I will break in pieces the gates of bronze
And cut the bars of iron.
I will give you the treasures of darkness
And hidden riches of secret places,
That you may know that I, the LORD,
Who call you by your name,
Am the God of Israel.

Photobucket
I'm ready for 2012, thankful for 2011.

What are your hopes, dreams, longings, fears? God will walk with you all the way. All you have to do is ask. I hope that when you're looking back on 2011, you see a year of God's grace and love. What were some of your favorite moments? Share them!

Much love!

Merry Christmas!

Christmas in Bethlehem. The ancient dream: a cold, clear night made brilliant by a glorious star, the smell of incense, shepherds and wise men falling to their knees in adoration of the sweet baby, the incarnation of perfect love.
-- Lucinda Franks

Merry Christmas, everybody!

I hope that you had a cozy, fabulous day filled with wonderful things. Family, traditions, yummy things, beautiful gifts, music, lights, and maybe even some paper snowflakes.

I also hope that you remember the *real* reason for this beautiful time of year - the birth, life, sacrifice, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! If you stop to think about it, it's a miracle. The Son of the living God - the Savior, Creator, and Redeemer of the world, came down here to earth as a child. He accepted the limitations of humanity as a testimony to us - so that WE could live in eternity with Him and His Father. "The incarnation of perfect love."

It's beautiful. It's wonderful. And it's a story that needs to be shared.

Y'all have a FABULOUS Christmas evening!

Much love!

Snowboarding | ps - it's *cold*

*Warning, warning!* iPhone pics ahead... not the *usual* quality... haha!

Home is a whole lot colder than Florida, lemme tell you! I swapped balmy 60-degree weather for this below freezing chill... just to spend Christmas with my family! They'd better appreciate it, lol!! Stepping off that plane was one of the biggest weather shocks I've ever had.

Just kidding. I LOVE being home. There truly is NO place like home for the holidays! =)

Photobucket

Monday afternoon was gorgeous. Blue skies, glistening snow... the whole fairytale look. (this is out my window, by the way. Incredible, yes?)
The next morning, when I woke up for a day of snowboarding, I almost died. The skies were cloudy, it was slightly foggy, and the chill was nearly more than I could bear! haha...

Photobucket
On the way  up to the best ski mountain ever, the icy road looked beautiful and life-threatening. But my brother drives ambulances for the county, so I guess I had to trust him to get me and my sibs up the mountain, huh? =)

Photobucket
Hey, random person in a yellow snowsuit. Get out of my picture. =)

My sis and her Cody friend looked adorb... how come I can't look like that in my snowboard gear? (yes, there's a GOOD reason that I don't have any pics of myself up here today...)

Photobucket
I actually didn't quite die of cold.

My fingers froze inside my ski gloves.

My boots probably froze to the snowboard.

My eyelashes would have frozen if it hadn't been for my ski goggles.

But I hadn't had that much fun in a loonnnnng time!

Photobucket
The sunset was gorgeous through the fog as we left the hill. I was SO sore the next day. But it was SO worth it. I can't wait to show these pictures to all my friends from down South. "soooooo... how did *you* spend your Christmas vacation? I spent mine 20 minutes from the ski hill!"

Just kidding... I'll try not to rub it in.

Much love!

College Life

I'm HOME!! I can still hardly believe it.

I've finished my first semester of college. It's hard to believe... I'm still saying that over and over again! =) It's amazing to be home. It's amazing to be done. I can't wait to do it all over again! Since I was so incredibly busy, I didn't have time to blog. Sadddddness, I know. =) But here's a short post of a few of the things that filled my days. (before my camera broke, anyway...)

I hope you enjoy a peek into my life! Have a BRILLIANT Christmas, y'all!! =)

Luvs!

Photobucket
This is what I woke up to every morning... beautiful, huh?!

Well, every morning that it didn't rain. Or fog. Or... worse. haha!

Photobucket
I can't believe I'm going to school just a few minutes from the beach!! *squeal*

Photobucket
There's a gorgeous marina downtown, too... I really want to do a photoshoot with my friends one day.

Photobucket

Photobucket
This is my *amazing* friend and roommate, Tyler. She's a saint, I tell you!! She puts up with me every single day. We have similar majors, so we even have some classes together. Tyler's been such a special blessing to me. I love you, girlie!

Photobucket
Here are the other roommates, Natalie and Ariane. They're also very special young ladies. Our room is often filled with laughter, singing, and talking (sometimes late into the night, haha!)

Photobucket
Gorgeous sunny days on the beach...

Photobucket
And rainy days studying in the library.

Photobucket

Photobucket
And PLENTY of chocolate, goodness knows!!

I wouldn't have lived without it. Seriously.

Photobucket
Yeah, sometimes I got stressed.

But God was AWESOME.

And I'm still alive!!

Photobucket

Photobucket
Spending 12 hours a week on the piano was new...

I love my professor, though. Four years on this instrument is going to be fabulous - he's already taught me SO much!

Photobucket
Florida sunsets.

Are.

Gorgeous.

Photobucket
And this was my nighttime view. Not exactly the dark, star-lit, wide country sky.

But it was beautiful.

=)
